On April 25th and 26th, 2017, HOMER Energy participated in the TISED (Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design) microgrid research workshop program, Is There a Role for Microgrids in the Energy Future of Quebec and Canada? HOMER Energy CEO Peter Lilienthal spoke about “Microgrid Activity around the World,” distilling insights from HOMER Energy’s database of 25,000 microgrid projects in 193 countries.
Following last year’s successful 4th Annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference in New York, HOMER Energy has set the date and location for what promises to be its best microgrid conference to date. Participants will spend three days learning about microgrids and meeting industry experts at the 5th Annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference in Denver, Colorado, September 18-20, 2017.
When the Carribean Transitional Energy Conference (CTEC) takes place in the Cayman Islands next month, attendees will enjoy a star-studded lineup of key speakers, including HOMER CEO Dr. Peter Lilienthal. Topping the list is keynote speaker Fabien Cousteau, grandson of the famed Jacques-Yves Cousteau, who is a leading aquanaut in his own right, an ocean conservationist, and a documentary filmmaker. In 2016, the International Renewable Energy Association (IRENA), celebrated five monumental years of work. IRENA, an intergovernmental organization supporting countries in the transition to sustainable use of renewable energy, is headquartered in Abu Dhabi. Its formidable accomplishments last year include comprehensive reports (such as: ‘Innovation Outlook: Renewable Mini-grids,’ produced with support from HOMER Energy and TTA; the trajectory of solar in Africa; and the explosion of renewable energy jobs), as well as technology briefs, meetings […]
Following is an overview of repair efforts to date for EarthSpark’s Haitian Microgrid. The overview was presented by Rachel McManus, executive director of EarthSpark, at the recent HOMER International Microgrid Conference 2016 in New York City. Building and sustaining a microgrid takes a lot of planning for potential challenges such as transport of materials, payment schemes, community building, and maintenance. Even with the best planning, however, microgrids may encounter unexpected challenges, such as a […]
The World Bank invited Ricky Buch, Strategic Marketing Leader, General Electric’s Power business, to share his experiences with building microgrids in developing regions.
Buch spoke about the GE Power pilot microgrid projects in India (Bihar and Uttar Pradesh) and upcoming projects in South East Asia and Africa. For these pilots, GE has designed a hybrid system that combines solar and batteries with a diesel genset. This microgrid “CONTAINER” includes an energy management system capable of reducing the energy cost up to 30% versus traditional systems.
