Illinois Institute of Technology’s Microgrid

The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) current on-campus generation is mostly natural gas powered turbines with 9 MW of capacity. The college has 140 kW of rooftop solar on one building and a small wind turbine used mostly for educational purposes. The campus also incorporates 500 kWh of flow batteries for energy storage, and the goal is to transition to more renewables long term.
