Boulder, Colo., June 5, 2020 — HOMER Energy by UL has expanded its training program to include its in-depth “Foundations” courses online. This enhanced training program accommodates current restrictions in travel, while continuing to instruct users in the company’s internationally recognized energy modeling software.
The Foundations courses help students learn to design and simulate solar-plus-storage, combined heat and power (CHP), microgrids and many other types of hybrid distributed energy systems using HOMER® Pro software. Online Foundations classes are offered for both the HOMER Pro and HOMER Grid products, which are capable of modeling distributed energy systems up to 150 megawatts. HOMER Pro is for modeling off-grid or unreliable grid systems and has been used for over two decades in developing countries, on islands and in remote communities. HOMER Grid is ideal for users in developed countries who want to learn how grid-tied distributed energy systems can cut utility bills and provide a clean, resilient power supply in case of power outages.
“During these unusual times, we wanted to make the HOMER training easily available to everyone and that means expanding our online offerings.” said Peter Lilienthal, CEO and founder of HOMER Energy by UL. “Going forward, we will offer different training sessions and time them so they can be convenient in multiple time zones worldwide,” he added.
HOMER Energy by UL has over 200,000 users in 193 countries and the demand for training is always high. Dr. Lilienthal and members of the HOMER support team have historically traveled to over a dozen countries each year to teach engineers, utilities, government officials, renewable energy developers and others how to use HOMER software to lower financial risk, cut costs and improve the quality of distributed energy projects.
HOMER Foundations is normally a six-hour classroom course that gives each participant the chance to model his or her own microgrid. Now the class will be offered online in three, two-hour sessions, over a period of three days. Visit HOMER Energy for the course schedule.
In addition to the Foundations course, HOMER Energy by UL will offer an expanded schedule of classes for its two-hour “Introduction to HOMER” courses for both HOMER Pro and HOMER Grid. The introductory classes provide a broad overview of the software and its capabilities. Participants learn how HOMER software simulates multiple configurations of distributed energy projects, providing valuable insights for energy developers as it compares payback periods, capital and operating expenses, carbon emissions and system details.
The next “Introduction to HOMER” sessions are being offered starting in June. For schedules and details on HOMER software training please visit the HOMER Energy website.
