HOMER Energy Delivers Microgrid Message in Asia, Africa, India, Hawaii, and Florida

Boulder, CO, November 7, 2018 — Growing interest in microgrid technology is keeping HOMER Energy executives busy delivering presentations, panels, and trainings across multiple continents this autumn. Their audiences include the entire distributed generation ecosystems of  utilities, government officials, regulators, developers, and suppliers of equipment and services.

HOMER Energy COO Dr. Marilyn Walker will be on the panel “The Resilient Grid: The Centralized vs. Distributed Debate” at the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF), taking place in Miami on Thursday, November 8th. CREF brings Caribbean government officials and utility executives together each year to discuss investments in renewable energy and how they might solve challenges specific to Caribbean island nations. Clean energy has the potential to soften the impact of costly fossil fuel imports and improve resiliency in the face of increasingly powerful tropical storms. Walker says “It’s crucial for these island utilities to have the tools to weigh financial risk before investing in distributed renewable energy systems. That’s what the HOMER Energy software can do for them, along with calculating payback times and ROI.” Dr. Walker just completed another conference presentation on “Blockchain for Coops and Municipalities,” at the Energy Blockchain Consortium in Orlando on November 1-2, where she shared perspectives on microgrids and transactive energy.

Dr. Peter Lilienthal, HOMER Energy CEO, is on his way to Dakar, Senegal, on November 13th  to participate in the Sustainable Energy Forum sponsored by the Economic Community of West Africa. A conference and workshop will focus on microgrid development in regions where the grid provides an intermittent or sub-standard power supply. On November 14th, Dr. Lilienthal will be speaking on a panel that is part of the “Mini-grids Workshop: Technological Advances, Regulatory Framework, and Quality Assurance,” sponsored by U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) through the U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Standards Program (CESP). He will also  participate in a panel in a panel discussion focusing on “Standardizing Mini-grid Modeling, Feasibility, & Financial Analyses.”

Dr. Lilienthal just returned from an Asia trip that included stops in Hawaii at the Isolated Power Connect Conference, a keynote presentation and a training session at the Sustainable Energy Ecosystems International Conference (SEECON) 2018, Cebu, the Philippines. He also delivered a keynote address at the first Philippine International Microgrid Exhibition and Conference, co-located with SEECON, and a training at the University of San Carlos.

A few days later, Dr. Lilienthal delivered keynotes at the Asia Clean Energy Summit and Innovations in Digital Energy Asia, in Singapore, and conducted a training for the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS).

Finally, HOMER Energy’s Head Support Engineer Aleph Baumbach is on temporary assignment in India, where he will fill the gap in time zones and more efficiently serve customers who currently can’t reach HOMER Energy support services during US nighttime hours. Aleph will be presenting at Intersolar India in Bangalore, December 11-13. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a meeting.
