Peter Lilienthal: Support Repair of Hurricane Matthew-damaged Haitian Microgrid

Hurricane damaged Haitian MicrogridJoin Us in Helping Hurrican Matthew-damaged Haitian Microgrid Repair Efforts

When Hurricane Matthew came ashore in Haiti, the center of its landfall was Les Anglais, the location of a leading-edge microgrid developed by nonprofit EarthSpark International. Although almost every building in the town was destroyed, the microgrid only needs relatively minor repair to start assisting with the relief effort. You can help, while giving yourself the gift of microgrid networking and education from some of the world’s top leaders in microgrids.

HOMER Energy will donate 20% of all HOMER International Microgrid Conference (Columbia UniversityNov. 7-8, 2016) registrations made by midnight MDT on October 27 to repair the critical, non-profit microgrid in Les Anglais, Haiti.

The theme of the conference is “Microgrid Lessons from Global Markets.” Hurricane Matthew is dramatic evidence of how microgrids can increase community resilience, and how critical they are to the global energy infrastructure. The New York REV (Reforming the Energy Vision), which led us to hold the meeting in New York this year, was born of Hurricane Sandy.

The Les Anglais microgrid fared much better than the large grid serving the cities of Les Cayes and Jeremie. With minor repairs, it will quickly be providing critical electricity to assist with relief efforts in this remote region.

A great way to help: register to attend HOMER Microgrid International Conference at Columbia University by midnight MDT tomorrow, October 27. You’ll get to hear Audrey Zibelman, Chair of the New York Public Service Commission, speak on what’s happening in New York, and Pradeep Pursnani, Deputy Director of the Shell Foundation, on their vision for microgrids for energy access in developing nations, plus dozens of industry experts from across the globe.

Thanks for your attention. I hope to see you in New York in two weeks.

Kind regards,

Dr. Peter Lilienthal, CEO
HOMER Energy
