Dear Readers,
The big news in this issue is our new collaboration with the Microgrid Knowledge annual conference. With the surging interest in microgrids, the time is right for the leaders in microgrid education to work together to further the rapid advancement of microgrids. I am honored to have been asked to present the winners of the Microgrid Greater Good Awards at the Microgrid 2022 annual conference on June 1 – 2. We will also be conducting a HOMER Technology Workshop on June 2 at the event. We hope to see you there and please use our discount code, HOMERVIP for a 10% discount.
This newsletter also highlights a theme that we have been using for quite a while; “From the village to the city.” When we developed HOMER software in the early nineties, the market for microgrids was mostly in remote villages and islands. We were confident that eventually, microgrids would be instrumental in adding resilience to all power grids no matter the size. With the massive price decreases of the last decade and the burgeoning interest in resilience, the time has come.
The emergence is reflected in this newsletter with two articles relevant to distributed microgrids: one on the states with the most supportive policies for microgrids and another that is a case study on charging electric vehicles. There are another two items relevant to a utility-scale hybrid system, which we are now supporting through our new software, HOMER Front. You can learn more by attending the upcoming webinar on Maximizing the Revenue of Utility-Scale Energy Storage and by exploring the article and report on De-risking Energy Storage.
HOMER software delivers industry-leading system simulations, optimization, sensitivity analysis and best-in-class storage models across three categories of hybrid systems: islanded microgrids, grid-connected distributed generation, and front-of-the-meter utility-scale storage and hybrid systems.
