Proceedings of 8th Annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference Now Available On-demand

Boulder, Colo – January 4, 2021 – HOMER Energy by UL, the global leader in the development of standard-setting energy modeling software, is pleased to announce that session recordings from the eighth annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference are now available on the conference website.

Event organizer HOMER Energy by UL has made these complementary resources available to provide industry members with access to deep technical information and lessons learned from real-world microgrids. The recordings are intended to extend the call to “Join the Microgrid Revolution” across the globe.

This year’s virtual conference broke previous attendance records and attracted energy professionals from 136 countries. Energy experts gave presentations on technological advancements and case studies from off-grid island communities in Australia and Indonesia, remote installations in the circumpolar Arctic, commercial and industrial projects with innovative business models, and hybrid systems in Somaliland providing energy access. Question-and-answer periods followed each conference session.

The session recordings provide an extraordinary opportunity for professional development through in-depth practical and technical information about microgrid applications around the world. In addition, they offer knowledge-sharing presentations by the industry’s leaders and examples of diverse microgrid finance models and value propositions.

By viewing these on-demand presentations, energy professionals join a global community of microgrid experts, project developers, equipment suppliers and financiers to gain valuable insight into distributed energy systems in off-grid, remote and grid-tied settings.

Recorded sessions include:

  • Introduction, Kickoff and Market Assessment with Peter Lilienthal, Ph.D.  and Michael Bower, Ph.D.
  • Microgrids for Emergency Response and Resilience
  • Grid-Connected Systems for Resilience, Demand Charge Management and EV Charging
  • Microgrids for Energy Access: Recent Advances with Damilola Ogunbiyi
  • Regulations for Power Suppliers: What, Where and Why with Karl Rábago
  • Energy for Islanded Communities: Challenges and Solutions with Justin Locke
  • Controls: The Key to Sustainable Microgrids
  • Advances in Technology: Batteries and More

Many speakers addressed the rise of microgrid project development worldwide, as well as the technology advancements, policy shifts, and necessity driving this growth. In a world experiencing instability produced by a pandemic, extreme weather events and wildfires, microgrids have never before been so critical as a resilient, flexible and efficient source of reliable power.
