They will be speaking during the “Fending Off Climate Disasters with Microgrids” session on ‘Resilience Hubs: powering energy equity in climate disasters and year-round’.
As climate disasters worsen, cities nationwide are implementing Resilience Hubs by enhancing community centers and trusted neighborhood organizations — often in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods — with reliable power to provide essential services during post-disaster recovery. Through a case study on the Detroit-based Community Center at AB Ford Park, we will explore the challenges and solutions of designing, developing and funding Resiliency Hubs — from collaborating with community members, organizers, city services and funders to utilizing a design process that can help clarify stakeholder priorities. We will also look at potentially game-changing provisions passed in the Inflation Reduction Act.
