HOMER Energy will hold its 4th International HOMER Microgrid Conference and HOMER training at Columbia University in New York City on November 7 and 8. This is HOMER Energy’s 4th International Conference focused on bringing together the experts from around the world with experience in designing and running microgrids.

Energy Modernization Act hits, misses
The US Senate has passed a bipartisan “Energy Modernization Act.” Despite its many shortcomings, the one feature particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of microgrids as part of the future US energy solution. The bill includes both basic electricity delivery in remote communities and resilience for grid-connected communities.

DR program uses smart-grid technology
New Hampshire Electric Cooperative’s new demand response program takes advantage of internet-connected water heaters, space heaters and air conditioners in homes and businesses. NHEC is using this access to members’ most electricity-consuming appliances as part of its bid to incorporate consumer DR into its operations.

Black & Veatch HQ microgrid earns Edison Award
HOMER partner firm Black & Veatch’s corporate campus microgrid has been selected for a Gold Edison Award. The system generates electricity through a combination of natural gas, solar energy, geothermal and battery storage. The microgrid provides enough clean energy to run the headquarters’ 12,000-square-foot pavilion.
