Insights from the HOMER Energy Microgrid 2015 Conference

HOMER Energy's partner >Aquion Energy recently had Terry Holtz attend our 3rd Annual Microgrid Conference. This year’s theme was “Economically Integrating Storage and Renewables for Resilience, Grid Stability, and Remote Power,” so the focus was on microgrid technology, business models, planning, design, and deployment. More than 150 people--50% more than last year--from across the industry attended the conference.

Carnegie Wave Energy to Build World's First Wave–Powered Microgrid

Western Australian wave power company Carnegie Wave Energy has revealed that it is collaborating with WA network operator Western Power to develop the world’s first wave-integrated renewable energy microgrid project to be connected to an electricity network.

The Garden Island Microgrid Project will consist of Carnegie’s CETO 6 array, which is currently in progress, as well as the existing reverse osmosis desalination plant that is currently operating on Garden Island after being switched on last week.

Lighting African Households with Smartphones

Households in Senegal could soon be able to light their homes using their mobile phones. Two French start-up companies have come up with a new streetlighting system using a smart card which will allow Africans to prepay their electricity.

The product called the Nanogrid aims to wean Africans away from traditional polluting sources like kerosene to solar power on a continent where 900 million people don’t have access to electricity.

Connecticut Offers $30M in New Microgrid Funding

Connecticut yesterday launched its long-awaited third-round of microgrid funding, which will offer $30 million in new grants. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) will begin accepting applications December 10. A project can win $3 to $5 million. Both municipal and private microgrids can apply.

4th National Conference on Microgrids
