Western Australian wave power company Carnegie Wave Energy has revealed that it is collaborating with WA network operator Western Power to develop the world’s first wave-integrated renewable energy microgrid project to be connected to an electricity network.
The Garden Island Microgrid Project will consist of Carnegie’s CETO 6 array, which is currently in progress, as well as the existing reverse osmosis desalination plant that is currently operating on Garden Island after being switched on last week.

Households in Senegal could soon be able to light their homes using their mobile phones. Two French start-up companies have come up with a new streetlighting system using a smart card which will allow Africans to prepay their electricity.
The product called the Nanogrid aims to wean Africans away from traditional polluting sources like kerosene to solar power on a continent where 900 million people don’t have access to electricity.

Connecticut yesterday launched its long-awaited third-round of microgrid funding, which will offer $30 million in new grants.
