With Big Gains in Q3, Energy Storage Market Set to Finish Strong in 2016

Corporate investment in energy storage nearly hit $660 million in the third quarter, a five-fold increase from third quarter 2015. The all-time high mark in investments is an indication that more and more companies are entering the energy storage space.

Global Microgrid Installations Pass 2 GW Milestone

The U.S. and Asia are dominating the global microgrid market, where installations have now passed the 2 GW mark.  Fifty-four percent of microgrids have been deployed in North America with, 41% recorded in Asia. This includes 1,681 projects with a combined yield of 16,552.8 MW. There are 126 new projects being proposed. The most noteworthy new microgrids are in Andhra Pradesh, India (100 MW), Imperial Valley, CA (83 MW) and Newcastle, Australia (80 MW).

Microgrid as a Service Market to Provide Over USD 904 Million Revenue Post 2016

The global Microgrid as a Service (MaaS) market is expected to grow over the CAGR of ~16% during the period 2016 to 2022 from USD ~772 million in 2015. MaaS is registering healthy growth due to various benefits offered by microgrids, such as highly reliability, economical and efficient energy power, enhancement of renewable energy sources, and smart grid integration.

Senate Briefing: “District Energy, CHP, Microgrids: Resilient, Efficient Energy Infrastructure”

The International District Energy Association (IDEA), the Microgrid Resources Coalition (MRC), and the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) presented an informational Senate Briefing last week, moderated by Carol Werner, Executive Director of the EESI. Speakers provided policy guidance and described proven technologies and exemplary cases that illuminate the potential for more robust U.S. investment in district energy microgrids. They emphasized that cities, communities, and campuses throughout the nation are actively seeking more resilient, sustainable energy infrastructure to support economic growth and achieve environmental objectives.
