HOMER Energy Year in Review 2016 As we complete the first month of 2017, HOMER Energy takes a moment to look back to the highlights of an incredible year. Last year started with a bang as HOMER Energy released HOMER Pro 3.5 and its much anticipated HOMER Optimizer™ in February. This feature added an original optimization algorithm that significantly simplifies the design process for identifying least-cost options for a microgrid system. Also […]
Report Calls HOMER Energy ‘Key Player’ in Microgrid Growth Around the globe, governments are increasingly concentrating on RE resource-based microgrids. The microgrid market is expected to be a multi-billion-dollar market and to grow at a significant rate during the forecast period, through 2020, according to a recent Future Market Insights report. At present, the market is led by North America owing to growing industrialization and electrification. However, it is expected to witness a […]
In 2016, the International Renewable Energy Association (IRENA), celebrated five monumental years of work. IRENA, an intergovernmental organization supporting countries in the transition to sustainable use of renewable energy, is headquartered in Abu Dhabi. Its formidable accomplishments last year include comprehensive reports (such as: ‘Innovation Outlook: Renewable Mini-grids,’ produced with support from HOMER Energy and TTA; the trajectory of solar in Africa; and the explosion of renewable energy jobs), as well as technology briefs, meetings […]
The World Bank invited Ricky Buch, Strategic Marketing Leader, General Electric’s Power business, to share his experiences with building microgrids in developing regions.
Buch spoke about the GE Power pilot microgrid projects in India (Bihar and Uttar Pradesh) and upcoming projects in South East Asia and Africa. For these pilots, GE has designed a hybrid system that combines solar and batteries with a diesel genset. This microgrid “CONTAINER” includes an energy management system capable of reducing the energy cost up to 30% versus traditional systems.
Demand Energy Commissions Solar-Plus-Energy-Storage Microgrid at Manufacturing Facility in Costa Rica: Largest microgrid in Central America provides multiple grid services plus critical power backup, managed by company’s DEN.OSTM software control platform
After 3 successful microgrid conferences in Mexico, Spain, and Australia, HOMER Energy hosted its fourth annual international microgrid conference at Columbia University in New York November 7-8. TheHOMER microgrid conference was attended by 150 people from the microgrid sector, including representatives of the World Bank, Earth Spark, United Nations, Shell Foundation, Rocky Mountain Institute, and many other organizations. Keynote topic: regulatory issues from NY to the developing world The conference opened with Audrey […]
Africa’s vast energy poverty (600 million without access) and abundant sunlight (approximately 3,000 reliable, uninterrupted hours of sunlight each year) make the continent a perfect environment for successful solar microgrid projects. West African nations like Senegal are joining many African countries beginning to create their own renewable energy future, in which solar power will eliminate kerosene lighting pollution, reduce costs, and free villagers from traveling long distances just to charge their cell phones. In the […]
Join Us in Helping Hurrican Matthew-damaged Haitian Microgrid Repair Efforts When Hurricane Matthew came ashore in Haiti, the center of its landfall was Les Anglais, the location of a leading-edge microgrid developed by nonprofit EarthSpark International. Although almost every building in the town was destroyed, the microgrid only needs relatively minor repair to start assisting with the relief effort. You can help, while giving yourself the gift of microgrid networking and education from some […]
