HOMER User Case Study, SAFT: Cold Storage — Powering Remote Microgrids in the Far North

HOMER user case study SAFT

HOMER User Case Study: SAFT The following case study is adapted from a presentation given at the 2016 HOMER International Microgrid Conference. SAFT‘s Stuart Lansburg spoke to attendees about cold-weather storage and SAFT’s approach to these high-tech battery storage systems, presenting two case studies and a critique of HOMER Pro performance. Importance of storage in remote cold-weather microgrids When utilized in remote northern microgrids, storage systems enable a high penetration of renewables, producing fuel savings and a return […]

RISØ Report Concludes Danvest System Delivers Power Quality in Microgrid Applications

Danish national research institute RISØ, a world leader in setting standards for the modern wind industry, has released a report on power quality in diesel-wind microgrid-based hybrid systems.  RISØ measured performance using a Danvest Hybrid Power Plant running with a Vestas 600kW wind turbine. The institute tested voltage and frequency fluctuations during continuous operation as well as during transitions between different states of operation. The report concludes that frequency and voltage vary very little, both […]

ABB Installs Microgrid Solutions at its South Africa Campus

ABB disclosed its plan of installation of an integrated solar-diesel microgrid at its facilities in Johannesburg, South Africa. This new solution, comprising a rooftop solar photovoltaic (‘PV’) field and a PowerStoreTM grid stabilizer, is aimed at boosting the usage of renewable energy and offers uninterrupted power supply at the premises, especially during grid to island operation transitions and power disruptions. To be installed at ABB’s Longmeadow premises, which is a 96,000 square meter […]
