Innovative American Microgrids: from Corporate HQs to Affordable Housing

innovative american microgrids

In the United States, where minimalism and simplicity aren’t always a system’s determining factors, microgrid technology has made possible many groundbreaking projects that could lead to new models for off-grid power generation, distribution, and storage. These include everything from corporate campus microgrids to energy-plus-storage systems for multi-family affordable housing projects.

HOMER User Case Study: SAFT The following case study is adapted from a presentation given at the 2016 HOMER International Microgrid Conference. SAFT‘s Stuart Lansburg spoke to attendees about cold-weather storage and SAFT’s approach to these high-tech battery storage systems, presenting two case studies and a critique of HOMER Pro performance. Importance of storage in remote cold-weather microgrids When utilized in remote northern microgrids, storage systems enable a high penetration of renewables, producing fuel savings and a return […]

Cannabis Industry: Microgrids a “Game Changer” for Multi-billion Dollar Market

cannabis industry microgridMicrogrids bring environmental reponsibility, huge savings, to indoor cannabis industry.

Using fossil fuels to power cannabis cultivation is detrimental to the environment, takes “green” out of industry.
Energy is one of growers’ largest costs, accounting for as much as 50% of total overhead. However, implementing a microgrid can reduce those costs by as much as 25%. Scale Energy’s microgrids combine solar, storage, and combined heat and power (CHP). The systems make for a much more environmentally friendly operation while dramatically reducing costs, hence the revolutionary role they will play in this growing industry.
