The agenda for HIMC2017, which will take place in Denver, Colorado, September 18-20, 2017, promises to be the most robust, exciting, and relevant yet for this 5th annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference. This year’s event focuses on “Microgrid Lessons from Global Markets,” including on- and off-grid applications, innovative technologies, economics, and specific case studies of Alaskan and island microgrid projects — all led by the most prominent experts in their fields. Following are […]
We’re just catching up from HOMER Energy‘s HOMER International Microgrid Conference (HIMC2017), which took place this week near our home base, in Denver, Colorado. Approximately 200 attendees participated in presentations about new technologies and industry developments, panel discussions covering on-grid and off-grid topics and including case studies from the Pacific Islands, Haiti, Alaska, and other locations around the world. We’re planning a series of upcoming blog posts here at Microgrid News & Insight, covering […]
SPI wrapup … brief Solar Power International highlights On September 10-13, HOMER Energy joined thousands of exhibitors and tens of thousands of attendees at Solar Power International (SPI) in Las Vegas. The show was a huge success and we look forward to seeing some of our friends from SPI next week at the HOMER International Microgrid Conference (HIMC2017) in Denver, Colorado. Here are a few photos from SPI… If you didn’t have a […]
With its extreme weather and remote communities, Alaska has much to teach the world about microgrids. Industry leaders gathered in Denver next week for the 5th annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference (HIMC2017) can gain valuable insight on Alaska, the “first frontier” of hybrid microgrids. Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski will introduce a panel on remote Alaskan microgrids via video link. Senator Murkowski co-authored the widely supported bipartisan Energy and Natural Resources Act in July, […]
I’m just back from the incredible experience of participating in Solar Power International (we’ll write more about that soon) and can hardly believe it’s already time for our own premier gathering of microgrid industry leaders. The 5th Annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference (HIMC2017) is less than a week away, and I’m really excited about our agenda and the impact of taking part in such an inspiring and educational experience. I hope you’re reading […]
For grid-connected commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, the demand charges associated with peaks in consumption during high-use periods can be substantial–up to 70% of the customer’s utility bill–and peak shaving is a great option to reduce these costs. In fact, a just-released National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) survey of U.S. demand charges found that more than 25% of commercial utility customers (or about 5 million customers) in the U.S. alone would benefit from reducing peak demand consumption.
After the speakers, sessions, events, and trainings wrap up at the 5th annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference (HIMC2017) next month, conference attendees have the option of one more incredible day of learning and fun before heading back home and back to work. The HIMC “Bonus Day,” taking place September 21, 2017, in Denver, Colorado, is a unique opportunity to learn about some of the leading renewable energy organization headquartered here in the “Front […]
Kicking off next month’s 5th annual HOMER International Microgrid Conference (HIMC2017) is a keynote presentation everyone in the microgrid industry should hear. Bob Stojanovic, Director of Microgrids in North America, ABB, shares his unique perspective on “Enabling and Optimizing Distributed Generation, from Remote Villages to the Modern Macrogrid,” to conference attendees at the Embassy Suites, Denver, Colorado.
